Fresno (FFC) In an exclusive interview Major General Vang Pao, referring to the Secret War Veterans still trapped in the mountains as "the children of Laos," told the communist LPDR to "….stop persecuting and killing the citizens of Laos, twenty-seven years is enough." General Vang Pao's comments came after he viewed the Fact Finding Commissions video documentary Hope Lost. The video graphically depicts the communist attacks against the U.S. Secret War veterans and their families that are currently trapped in the Pha Sie Cliffs area of the Xaysomboune Special Zone in Northern Laos. Women and children dying from exposure to chemical weapons can be seen in the video. Vang Pao stated, "As a leader who fought for the cause of freedom and believed in the free world, it is clear the problems these people face. I do not want it to continue! I believe the communists have gone too far, it's enough!" He stated the communist LPDR government has used tortured and used chemical weapons against these citizens since 1975. He went on to say these human rights violations have been reported to the United Nations and democratic leaders of the world for over twenty-seven years. Vang Pao asked the leaders of Laos to consider that neither side won the Vietnam War. That world leaders agreed to end the war and resolve the conflict by signing an agreement to allow the citizens of Laos to rebuild Laos. He stated the democratic nations respected the agreement, but the Communist Pathet Lao violated the agreement and didn't do as they promised to do.
He said the communists arrested the Royal King and his family along with other high ranking officials (an estimated 46,000 people) and sent them to Vieng Xai, Sum Nuou province to "re-educate" them about communist rules. Vang Pao stated it was uncovered that the communist government imprisoned, tortured, and killed all of those people. According to Vang Pao this did not end the killing. He said the communists continue to target and kill the citizens of Laos who are loyal to freedom and democracy. "I am asking the communist government to stop killing those people because no human beings in the world would want anyone to step on them and kill them." Speaking to the citizens of Laos, Vang Pao stated "Although, I do want to assure these people that in the free and democratic world the power lies on its citizen, not their elected leaders, but in the communist world the power lies on its forces and guns and the elected individuals, which is totally opposite to the free world." Speaking to the LPDR government he admonished them to stop killing the citizens of Laos. "Twenty-seven years is enough." Vang Pao expressed his concern that the Lao governments oppression of the people could build resentment among the people and come back upon them. He reminded them of the collapse of the Soviet Union. The General asked how long communism can last in North Korea, Vietnam, and Laos. In conclusion Vang Pao stated: " I am afraid that when Communism finally vanishes there will remain the scars left by the LPDR among those Laotian descendents living around the world and within Laos. I believe they will bring these issues to the international communities' attention leading to tremendous consequences for those of you who are leading Laos today."
